HTC One X9: All there is to know

HTC is going at the smart phone market hard and fast by releasing a range of new premium smartphones one after another. And this time, with the release of the new HTC One X9, it has introduced another fierce contender in the mid-range phone area. The HTC One X9 is a mid-range device, a more premium version of the HTC One A9 of earlier this year. With mid-range phones proliferating the market faster than those top-notch models, and prices falling with the release of newer models, more smart phone manufacturers are starting to offer cheaper alternatives for better specs. The HTC One X9 is no exception. So, read on HTC One X9: All there is to know to find out more. HTC-One-X9-All-there-is-to-knowThe HTC One X9 was announced in December, 2015 after a series of rumors and speculations about its release and features. It has now been officially released in China for $370 and will soon go on sale worldwide, expected sometime by January, 2016. This will be one of the very few smartphones to be sporting the new Android 6.0, Marshmallow in the market. And while this is a mid-range phone, so, we can’t expect much of state-of-the-art specs, it sure will be interesting! To find out what it has in store for you, read on HTC One X9: All there is to know.

Design and Display

HTC-One-X9-All-there-is-to-knowThe phone comes with an all familiar design with HTC’s all aluminium body. It certainly looks a lot like the HTC One A9, which looked like a clone of the iPhone 6s, but the One X9 introduces a small portion of new elements on the familiar aluminium body. The comeback of the Boom Sound, which are HTC’s front facing dual speakers, are certainly a very good touch. It’s dimensions are 153.9 x 75.9 x 8 mm and it weighs about 170 grams, which is okay, I think.

The front sports a 5.5″ IPS display with a resolution of 1080 x 1920 pixels and the HD screen is corned by Gorilla Glass 4. The display might not be as good as other AMOLED displays we can find, but it certainly is good enough for a mid-range device, which can certainly deliver bright and sharp visuals.

HTC-One-X9-All-there-is-to-knowWhile you can’t expect top-tier quality cameras from mid-range devices, the HTC One X9 sure beats the One A9 with the camera. Although the camera is the same 13 MP shooter with OIS (Optical Image Stabilization), it is able to record 4K videos now, more than what the One A9 offered. Other than that, the f/2.0 aperture camera features autofocus, geo-tagging, and LED-flash. The front camera is a 5 MP Ultra-Pixel shooter with f/2.8 aperture and it’s also capable of taking 1080p videos at 30 fps.

Software and Platform

The HTC One X9 is powered by an Octa-Core Media Tek MT6795 Helio X10 processor, supported by the Cortex A53 CPU and PowerVR G6200 GPU.  It will be running the Android 6.0 Marshmallow, and all that combined with its 3 GB RAM, we can certainly say that it will be a very powerful phone. It will be one of few phones to run Marshmallow, which is a new and interesting OS, and the interface supported by the hardware sure makes it a great combination to use.

Battery and Memory

Looks like HTC really took the criticism it’d been receiving over the tiny battery on the One A9, so, now the premium version of that is powered by a non-removable Li-Io 3000 mAh battery. It boasts upto 15 hours of talk-time on 3G and upto 40 hours of music playback. HTC also claims that the One X9 is compatible with 5V / 1.5 A fast-charging which is not as fast as the modern 5V / 2 A on some flagship models, but it is still 30% faster than other previous formats. HTC-One-X9-All-there-is-to-knowThe One X9 packs 32 GB of internal storage, but if that’s not enough, the memory is expandable up to 200 GB via a Micro SD card. So, with such plentiful storage, there’s no need to worry at all.

Additional Features

With the re-debut of its Boom Sound, you can also say good-bye to its fingerprint sensor at the back which the One A9 possesses. So, I guess you could say that the familiar HTC we once knew, is back! Other than losing the fingerprint sensor, the One X9 seems like an upgrade of the One A9 in every other aspect. And for a better price! The HTC One X9 is priced $370, which is a lot cheaper than the One A9. The phone is available in black and white colors.
